Monochord instruments from feeltone | weplaywelltogether

Monochord Instruments, Handcrafted in Germany

A monochord is a stringed instrument whose strings are all tuned to the same note. Strum across them and you hear a rich, shimmering wash of overtones. No musical experience is needed, which is why monochords are loved for sound healing, meditation, sound baths and therapy work.

We Play Well Together is the exclusive North American distributor for feeltone. We carry the full range, built in Germany by Ingo Böhme and his team in close collaboration with therapists and musicians. Shops, studios and practitioners are welcome to ask about wholesale.

Which Monochord Is Right for You?

  • Monolini (21 strings): the smallest and lightest, easy to carry and to place on the body.
  • Monolina (34 strings): our most popular monochord, in five tunings, for sound baths, meditation and sound massage.
  • Monolina XL Low C (28 strings): a longer, deeper-voiced Monolina.
  • Monochord Table (60 strings): the client lies on the table and feels the sound through the whole body.
  • Monchair Singing Chair (40 strings): a seated full-body sound experience.
  • Soundwave: a curved lounger with a monochord and a bass tongue drum.
  • Kotamo and concert monochords: koto, tambura and monochord in one instrument, for performers and overtone singers.

Why a feeltone Monochord?

  • Three notes, not one. Every Monolina and Monolini is tuned to a root, an octave and a fifth, for a fuller, more harmonic drone. The Monolina adds five melody strings on movable bridges.
  • Built for the body. The boat-shaped underside rests on a client for sound massage, so the vibration is felt as well as heard.
  • Strings made for each instrument. feeltone works with a string maker to design every string set for its model and tuning, so volume, vibration and touch work in harmony with each design.
  • Over 40 years of craft. Handcrafted in Germany from ash and cherry and finished with natural hard wax oil. feeltone has built monochords since 1997.
  • Trusted in clinics. feeltone instruments are used in music therapy, including at the Louis Armstrong Center for Music and Medicine in New York.
  • Support after you buy. As the exclusive North American feeltone distributor, we keep instruments and replacement strings in stock in California, and our free Monochord Monday meetups have run since 2020.

Not sure where to start? Read our monochord buying guide, or contact us and we will help you choose.

Already own a monochord? The beginner's guide shows you how to tune, play and care for it.
