Klangfarben, founded by Wolfgang Deinert in 1989, specializes in meticulously handcrafted Bell chimes and tubular gongs, known for their precise tuning and quality brass construction. WE PLAY WELL TOGETHER proudly distributes Klangfarben in North America, offering a selection of pre-tuned chime sets and custom creations tailored to individual preferences.
These instruments open up a new level of working with sound, the instruments are made with high quality brass. The precision tuning of a set is done on the same day so the chime sets stay in tune together. Metal is a material that changes with temperature etc so the tuning aspect is important.
After the tuning the gong chimes are finished by polishing them by hand.

This is what our customer have to say about Klangfarben:
"The Klangfarben Chimes are such wonderful healing helpers that speak, blending sweet and calming vibrations to allow people to relax into themselves and look at what’s not serving them. I work with them almost every day and use them in a variety of ways. Sometimes they are just what is needed by themselves in the moment.”

For most people hearing is something ordinary. It was for me for a long time also, until my son Elias lost his hearing caused by meningitis when he was 4 month old. I began to ask myself some questions: What is the difference between hearing and listening? How do we perceive sound? What is sound?
I started to build sound tubes (chimes) and Elias showed me that even a deaf person can "hear" - with his hands, his feet, his whole body and his wide open senses. He is Listening rather than Hearing.
He inspired me to research, observe and sharpen my senses to understand the relationship between notes, tones, sounds and their effects.
In 1989 I established "Klangfarben - Studio für Klangkörper" with the purpose to build instruments for researching the effects of individual sounds and various sound sequences on natural organisms.
My earliest creations were windchimes with different basic tones. Each chime elicits a different mood. The combinations of different notes were based on my own experience to their effects.
During my research I discovered a brass alloy, which is the most effective material for what I want to achieve. Since then, I have mastered precise tuning to create sound tubes of exceptional quality in timbre and vibrations. Each chime is meticulously hand finished.
From 1994 until 2007 I had an intensive and inspiring cooperation with Fabien Maman to develop instruments with specific sound sequences and their applications in healing techniques. Throughout Europe and the United States, clinics, doctors, facilities for the disabled, naturopaths, therapists and individuals have profound results using the sound tubes (chimes) for healing.
I will use this page to thank everyone who crossed my path, shared their experiences, encouraged and inspired me. I shall start with Elias, who showed me how to listen with all senses.

I’m loving this kalimba!
However, the highest note does not ring like the rest. And the third to highest note is ever so slightly flat.
But I know I’m going to love her.
A few years ago I became casually interested in the Kalimba because of its simplicity of design and playability. Without experience or a good point of reference I needed to taste a lot of flavors to sort out the choices. For a while, my discards kept the local Goodwill store supplied with inventory.
The feeding frenzy stopped when I discovered Hokema. Build and material quality is professional grade. The tines are not stiff, so you can play at any intensity without stressing a thumb nails. Resonance from the solid wood base and the resulting sustain are simply stunning. Even the high notes sing, unlike the flat 'tapping an aluminum pan' sound from my discards.
I first purchased the B-17, and later the smaller B-17 Mini. Comments above apply to both. There is no problem holding, playing, or carrying around either instrument. The Mini's smaller footprint might be more comfortable for small hands. I just like the smaller package. Because the B-17's wood block is wider, it has more space between the tines. Both instruments appear to use the same tine assembly materials, but the Mini has a shorter cross bar. The Mini's tine spacing is grouped, but they can be adjusted to make the spacing more uniform like the B-17. In that mode, even with the smaller block the tine spacing is noticeably wider than some other Kalimbas I've tried. My thumbs are average width for a 5'8" person and my nails are normally rounded (not pointed), and I have no trouble playing individual notes.
Tablature is available around the net for 17-key Kalimbas (RiffSpot has a nice ebook), so you can play tunes without reading music on both the B-17 and B-17 Mini.
I just took the week-long monochord training with Joule and fell in love with my Monolina. Joule is a fun, engaging and knowledgeable teacher who brings deep reverence to her instruments and the art of playing them. We got to experiment with and experience all the different ways of expressing through our monochords and came away with a proven, complete and beautiful 45-minute session we can now offer. I highly recommend this class.
Wonderful instrument. It’s easy to travel with and well crafted. Customer service is wonderful as well. Very responsive. I am always impressed with the attention to customer service and care of the instruments. This instruments complement my crystal singing bowls and monalina nicely.
This set elevates one’s instruments to the next level. Having all these components really sets one up for success and allows room for growth to grow into your sound practice.
The versatility that comes with having the leg extensions allows the player to be comfortable in a variety of ways while playing. The mallets add additional ways to play.
Tuning is a breeze with the template. When not being played or on the go with this monolina, the mats keep everything safe and the backpack makes it so you can take it to the studio or out into nature to play.
I can’t say enough great things about it, it’s a must have in the sound tool kit for sure.
I received my monolini recently and fell in love. My intention is to bring healing to myself and others. This course really brought new understanding to this beautiful instrument. Joule is so authentic and encourages each student. The pace of the two day training is perfect. Plenty of instruction as well as exercises. I highly recommend the course for anyone who is new to this instrument so that they can fully realize its potential. At age 64 having no musical background, I have found an instrument that gives me incredible joy. Also surprisingly confident enough to share with others. Thanks to Joule and her course, I’m deeply in love and have appreciation for the creators, makers, and the wood and metal that makes this instrument possible. I’m looking forward to another Joule training.
I’m really enjoying my Hokema Sansula - it has a beautiful sound and enchants everyone I play it for.
If you are deciding on these, get them! Cute mallets that create a different texture of sound.
Very excellent customer service and the monolina is awesome. Gabriele was understanding, patient and responsive. The consultation with Joule was worth doing as she was able to answer questions that I wouldn't have gotten from the website. The fee went towards the instrument.
I love it. People love it. It's an investment and a good one.
Some say that D minor is the saddest key. I beg to differ. D minor is is a beautiful key and the Aqua collection is a delight. I feel fortunate to obtain the blue "baby turtle" now that they are no longer being manufactured. It's a perfect addition to my D minor collection, including several We Play Well Together offerings. It has a sweet, lovely sound and you really can't go wrong playing it.
