Klangfarben Tubular Chimes with Lydia Hwang

San Francisco based Sound practitioner Lydia Hwang recently gave our Monochord Monday Meetup Zoom group a super treat by demonstrating how she layers the Monolina Monochords along with the Klangfarben Hanging Chimes. (Join our meetup group to access.) She also offered an Instagram Live Interview on @weplaywelltogether where she shared her story of how she came to work with sound after being diagnosed with autoimmune disease.

Lydia alchemizes mediums of sound and color into a uniquely powerful healing practice called “Color Soul” intuitive readings. Apart from her private healing practice in the San Francisco Bay Area, Lydia leads color and sound workshops, is a guest sound healer at Ratna Ling retreat center offering life enhancing sound journeys for group retreats, and co-facilitates yoga and sound events. Musically, she is one of the founding members of Savasana Sound, performing group concerts, sound journeys, and recorded albums (soon to be released).

Wolfgang Deinert, created Klangfarben in 1989, in Germany and has been handcrafting his precision Bell chimes and tubular gongs ever since. These instruments open up a new level of working with sound, the instruments are made with high quality brass.
    .
The precision tuning of a set is done on the same day so the chime sets stay in tune together. Metal is a material that changes with temperature so the tuning aspect is very important, then the gong chimes are finished by hand polishing.

    All about feeltone

    feeltone Logo

Learn all about these gorgeous wood dronal and percussive instruments crafted out the highest quality materials in Northern Germany, and how WE PLAY WELL TOGETHER has brought them to the American Market for music and sound therapists as well as composers and performers. We're now convening an interconnected international network around players of hypnotic soundscapes so that anyone can experience how to "feel the tone".

    Ingo Böhme

(And no, that's not a typo: feeltone is always written with a lower-case f! :)

We're making a joyful noise with feeltone as the company celebrates its 40th anniversary this year! That's 40 years of honing the craft of fine instrument building.

Fine Instruments made at the Baltic Sea: An Origin Story...

Ingo Böhme is the founder and CEO of feeltone: a self-taught musician, researcher, instrument maker, businessman and entrepreneur.
As a child Ingo had longed to play music, but was frustrated by early piano lessons in his native Germany where he was criticized for playing the "wrong notes." This caused him to abandon music making for many years, until a trip to Idaho in 1982 found him at a festival in the wilderness where he experienced playing intuitive instruments for the first time. Without training, without musical knowledge, he describes the feeling of being carried by the group, playing without thinking, invisibly guided. This was to become his vision, which he passes on with great enthusiasm through his work up through today: intuitive music making.

"The most beautiful thing is to see the glow in the eyes when an instrument touches the heart with its sound." - Ingo Böhme

  • Bonus Time Music: Live-Looping of Our Instruments with Brandon Blake!
    April 22, 2021

Bonus Time Music: Live-Looping of Our Instruments with Brandon Blake!

Musician, Child Educator and Animal Rights Activist Brandon Blake of @bonustimemusic went live on Facebook during the NAMM 2021 virtual Show "Believe in Music" Week to demonstrate his unique way of working with the WE PLAY WELL TOGETHER family of instruments including: Hokema Kalimbas, Metal Sounds Tongue Drums, and feeltone Monochords & Tinka Tongs - combined with electric bass and live looping. We think you'll find this video truly inspirational and will hopefully give you ideas of how you can utilize your instrument in intriguing combinations.

Brandon is truly an innovative musician - having created a specialized playing technique with the Hokema Kalimba Sansula in which he taps and strikes the drumhead of the instrument while plucking and muting the metal tines. Plus - he's figured out a brilliant method to instantly retune the instrument in the middle of his playing - using tiny weighted magnets!

Brandon is also a bass player who skillfully incorporates live looping. Watch him create incredible soundscapes in real time by looping Kalimba, Tongue-Drum and Monochord accompanied by some satisfying bass-bombs to build a body-moving groove overlaid with rich sonic textures and thrilling overtones.

We Play Well Together at the NAMM Show 2021

We Play Well Together is proud to have been presented in a virtual booth at the NAMM Show 2021 "Believe in Music" Week in January!
We've been attending NAMM in Los Angeles every year for the past few conferences. Due to the ongoing pandemic, The 2021 NAMM Show was all online. Our team got to work building a virtual exhibitor booth and we put together a ton of great video content highlighting our instrument makers and latest products! We'll be highlighting these videos in blog posts and newsletters to our We Play Well Together community in the weeks and months ahead.

Be SURE to check out our 15-minute Instrument Maker highlight reel above -produced just for our NAMM 2021 virtual booth featuring the Metal Sounds Company, Hokema Kalimbas and feeltone

It features portrait videos for all three European instrument makers and gives you a little bit of behind-the-scenes delight at their workshops. You'll also see an interview with the company founders that was conducted by VisionQuest Sound the last time we were able to attend the NAMM Show in person (in January of 2020.)
