Intro to Monochord Live Online Training

The power of overtones & natural acoustic vibration for Sound Meditation, Sound Baths, and Sound Journeys

with official USA feeltone Trainer Joule L’Adara, MFA in Music

In this intimate online retreat, you’ll join a small group of just 2–6 participants for two days of deep, focused learning from the comfort of your own space. You’ll discover how to:

  • Refine your finger technique to draw out the richest, most resonant harmonics
  • Find the ideal balance of glide, pressure, and speed
  • Learn the 5 monochord playing parameters
  • Explore two distinct styles of playing:

    • Meditative Style for grounding, spacious sound meditations
    • Evocative Style for guiding dynamic sound journeys
  • Learn about the origins of the monochord and the feeltone company, plus basic monochord maintenance including tuning techniques, cleaning, storage, and how to change a string

Through a series of guided explorations, you’ll practice on your own instrument at home—while receiving real-time feedback, support, and inspiration from both your instructor and your fellow participants. And while anyone can strum a monochord, there are skillful ways of playing it that will bring about deeper transformational experiences in your listeners.

This is a high-value online experience, and instructor Joule L'Adara has a collection of 12 monochords with an elaborate sound system including an overhead stereo room mic, vocal mic, and contact mics on every monochord connected to a mixer to optimize the sound so you may hear the nuances of these delicate instruments through your headphones on Zoom. As a bonus Joule also delivers a video recording of her monochord "Sound Immersion" so that you may be inspired by the potential of the sounds of combining multiple monochords together.

Though nothing compares to our IRL trainings, this virtual retreat offers an affordable option to go deeper with this instrument for those who don't currently have the time or resources to travel.

Note: you must own a monochord to be able to participate as you'll be lead through live exercises from the comfort of your home.

"Joule is an excellent teacher! Her lessons flow from topic to exercises with so much ease and class time is so enjoyable. Joule makes sure everyone's questions are answered before going to the next lesson. Before this training, I had no ideas of all the many different ways to play the monochord. After this course, I now have so much more knowledge and I'm able to tap into my creativity with a deeper love and appreciation with this beautiful instrument."

I am even more in love with Mona - my monolini D

I received my monolini recently and fell in love. My intention is to bring healing to myself and others. This course really brought new understanding to this beautiful instrument. Joule is so authentic and encourages each student. The pace of the two day training is perfect. Plenty of instruction as well as exercises. I highly recommend the course for anyone who is new to this instrument so that they can fully realize its potential. At age 64 having no musical background, I have found an instrument that gives me incredible joy. Also surprisingly confident enough to share with others. Thanks to Joule and her course, I’m deeply in love and have appreciation for the creators, makers, and the wood and metal that makes this instrument possible. I’m looking forward to another Joule training.

On February 24th, 2025, we met up online with a very special guest who joined our Monochord Monday Meetup live from Lisbon, Portugal: Mallika Paritosh. Originally from Argentina, Mallika began as a classical pianist in the conservatory who later found her freedom of expression as a multi-instrumentalist traveling the world as a musical artist, researcher, teacher, and event producer. In this edited video, Mallika shares with us about her journey in music and inspires us to find "sound intimacy."
