Last month's Kalimba Campfire virtual gathering featured Broadway Composer, Performer, and performance coach Will Reynolds, said an instrument such as a Sansula is a "key for unlocking creative permissions".

If you play the video, you can play along with his beat, and listen to how Will shapes this little self-empowering mantra song with the Sansula G. Of course, you can make a version on any tuning of Sansula: each line of the song gets two runs on a row of tines. This creates a song form as the rows of the Sansula (regardless of tuning) form major and minor chords, and when played in a repetitive pattern, this creates a simple song form.
Will is then joined onscreen by "Teacher Brandon" Blake and receives a mini lesson on how to play rhythm on the Sansula's drum head, turning it into a mini drum set where you can create both a beat and a melody. Some say that D minor is the saddest key. I beg to differ. D minor is is a beautiful key and the Aqua collection is a delight. I feel fortunate to obtain the blue "baby turtle" now that they are no longer being manufactured. It's a perfect addition to my D minor collection, including several We Play Well Together offerings. It has a sweet, lovely sound and you really can't go wrong playing it.
I am really enjoying this beautifully crafted instrument. It is the perfect accompaniment to my softly spoken meditation and journey work prompts. Just wish I had purchased a case when I ordered.
