Dave Leo Baker feels the sound

Since 2021 we've hosted an interactive virtual playshop called KALIMBA CAMPFIRE now taking place live simultaneously on the Clubhouse Social Audio App and Zoom where guests can be seen with their camera on, but participants have the luxury of participating with their camera off - mimicking the safety of playing around the dark of a campfire.

In May, our special guest for the moth was musician Dave Leo Baker:

Dave Leo Baker is a sound healing musician based in Portland, Oregon, creating immersive, stress-relieving music designed to help busy professionals reset, refocus, and recharge. Since 1989, he has been crafting a unique fusion of New Age, Cinematic, and Ambient music, blending inspirations from nature with cutting-edge wellness techniques. His music is designed to reduce stress, enhance focus, and promote deep relaxation—perfect for background listening during work, travel, or moments of mindfulness.

Dave has been blind since birth so shares unique perspectives on playing intuitive musical instruments including the Hokema Sansula (which he just recently picked up - proving that anyone can play these musical instruments without instruction or "reading notes" - though of course it helps to have a musicians' ears and touch such as Dave!)

Watch this video with edited highlights from Dave's presentation with Sansula:

You can listen to the full unedited audio version of this session (along with guest artists who played) hosted on SoundCloud here:

To listen to past sessions, and to join our live free KALIMBA CAMPFIRE Zoom gatherings: Go to our KALIMBA CAMPFIRE page here!

And we encourage you to go to Spotify (or your favorite music streaming platform) to listen to and follow Dave Leo Baker (we can't wait for him to record a track with Sansula!)
