Large Gourd Kalimba
This instrument is very pleasing for the player as you enter your hands inside the gourd and play with your thumbs. You can actually feel the gourd vibrating as well as your legs if you are sitting and having the kalimba on your lap.
The artist and musician who built this instrument decorated the gourd with burn marks, carvings, and pictures. He also added a leather string to the gourd.
Purchased directly from the maker, who lives in Berkeley, CA, and specializes in building kalimbas.
Condition: gently used, good condition. The furthest tine on the right is slightly thicker than the other tines and, due to that, has less resonance.
Size: 17” by 16” wide and about 8” thick. The metal tines are about 1/2” wide.
Current tuning is E G A B D E G (from left to right). Tines are easy to tune with a hammer (hitting gently at the top of the tine horizontally)
