Monolina Pickup Mic

We are thrilled to offer a custom-designed contact mic for the feeltone Monolina Monochord — the first pickup specifically engineered to capture the delicate, nuanced overtones of a monochord with exceptional clarity and no distortion.
Why a Custom Pickup?
We’ve long been asked “What’s the best way to amplify the Monolina?” — and until now it wasn’t easy to answer. Regular contact mics add distortion and noise. Condenser microphones pick up too much ambient sound and don’t amplify the body of the instrument. This custom pickup solves both problems.
Designed for us by David Enke of Open to Source Sensors (Colorado), it uses super-sensitive polymer film sensors and cutting-edge microphone line arrays — pioneering technology based on 35 years of research — to capture acoustic instruments at the highest levels of audio purity and fidelity.
How It Works

The pickup consists of a copper ribbon mic woven from space-grade materials that runs the length of the left side of the Monochord. To install, the strings are slightly loosened, the metal tension rod swapped out, the ribbon mic laid in place, and a hollow metal bar cover inserted before re-tightening. A quarter-inch jack with battery and volume knob attaches to the side of the instrument with strong double-stick tape.

The pickup runs on a simple 3V button cell battery, has a volume attenuator, and connects to any quarter-inch female plug on a mixer, speaker, or audio interface. Exceptional tone, harmonic sensitivity, and high feedback resistance — with recording-quality sound.

Professional Installation Service

We also work with Eric Alfredo of Hudson Valley Guitar Fix in Beacon, New York — a top luthier trained to install the pickup to our standards. Installation is $175 plus shipping (you are responsible for packing and shipping your instrument to the shop and back). Once you purchase, we can ship the pickup directly to Eric and make the introduction. Turnaround is approximately two weeks. While other local guitar shops may be able to install the pickup, we can only guarantee the work of Hudson Valley Guitar Fix.
