Tenor Tongue Drum - Padouk Wood - D Minor
The feeltone Tenor Tongue Drum is a mid-size, finely tuned wood tongue drum handcrafted in Germany from air-dried padouk and pine. At 100 cm long, it sits between the handheld Tinka Tong and the large Bass Tongue Drum β an ideal size for children and adults alike, and especially popular in kindergartens, schools, clinics, and therapy centers. Like the Bass, it can be played as a percussion instrument, used interactively by two players, or flipped on its side as a sound therapy couch.
Tuning: D-Minor Pentatonic β D β E β G β A β B β D β E β G
Three ways to play:
- As a percussion instrument β standing on its feet, played with mallets or hands. The 8 tongues are arranged so that left and right hands alternate up the scale, making rhythmic and melodic play intuitive from the start.
- Interactive drumming (playing surface on top) β two children sit at each end of the drum and play the tongues in front of them. The vibration is felt throughout the body, and the shared rhythm quickly becomes a joyful, communicative experience that awakens creativity and connection.
- Sound therapy couch (playing surface on side) β the drum tilts onto its side; the pine surface is padded with a blanket and a child lies on top. A practitioner or educator gently strikes the tongues one at a time, and the child feels the sound move through their entire body. Particularly effective for hyperactive children and mindfulness work.
