Bass Tongue Drum - Padouk Wood - A Minor
The feeltone Bass Tongue Drum is a large-format, finely tuned wood tongue drum handcrafted in Germany from air-dried padouk and pine. At 120 cm long, it is feeltoneβs largest tongue drum β and one of the most versatile instruments in their lineup. Designed for music therapists, educators, and wellness practitioners, it can be played as a percussion instrument, used as a sound therapy couch, or played interactively by two people at once.
Available tunings:
- A-Minor Pentatonic β Tone sequence: A β C β D β F β G β A β C β D
- D-Major Pentatonic β Tone sequence: F β G β A β C β D β F β G β A
Three ways to play:
- As a percussion instrument β standing on its feet, played with mallets or hands. The 8 tongues are arranged so that left and right hands alternate up the scale, making rhythmic and melodic play intuitive from the start.
- Interactive drumming (playing surface on top) β two players sit at each end of the drum and play the tongues in front of them. The vibration is felt throughout the body, and the shared rhythm quickly becomes a joyful, communicative experience.
- Sound therapy couch (playing surface on side) β the drum tilts onto its side; the pine surface is padded with a blanket and a child or adult lies on top. A practitioner gently strikes the tongues one at a time, and the recipient feels the sound move through their entire body. Particularly effective for hyperactive children and mindfulness work.

About padouk: Padouk is an exceptional tonewood with outstanding vibrating qualities, producing a longer resonance than most alternatives. feeltone sources only certified, sustainably harvested padouk from Nigeria and air-dries it for 2β4 years before use β industrially dried padouk is prone to cracking. Every plank is used as completely as possible: first the Bass, then Tenor, Soprano, and finally the Baba and Tinka Tongs.
βThe quality and endurance of this Tongue Drum makes it a great addition to my arsenal of instruments and sound colours, as well as being a fun source for children and the elderly to easily execute their curiosity.β
